I am not declaring bankruptcy but I feel seriously close to the edges of the question. Being a self supporting artist in this economy I am surviving on a prayer and a wing and a song. I have met artists, big guffawing artists, who talk about how well they are doing, about how people come in droves and stand in line to buy their hugely expensive works, even in this economy. But this is not my reality. Do not let me mislead you. I have honestly sold a sixty five thousand dollar piece. Very very few artists can claim such a thing. However, those instances are few and far between and not my bread and butter. This economy sucks. Art is the first thing to go. It comes under the heading of ‘disposable income’. However, I have made a living and paid my bills for thirty three years! That’s incredible! And I have spent a lot of that time living very close to the edge but have survived unscathed and have raised wonderful children and enjoy health and vitality and so much more. So if you too feel very close to the act of filing for bankruptcy I suggest you too count your blessings.
