SEO copywriting has been around for a long time now, but many people confuse it with regular copywriting. The primary difference being when you write for SEO, you’re mainly targeting the search engine algorithms even though you have to write for the audience, too. Given below are a few simple tips to help you get the most out of your SEO campaign.
What are the keys for effective SEO copy? The main problem usually boils down to lack of preparation in terms of knowledge necessary to do the job right. The highest performing content is that which is good and informative plus it provides good value to the reader. Also, search engines are always trying to find ways to ensure that only good content gets ranked highly. It might be rare, but sometimes other sites will link to you voluntarily, but only if your site has tremendous value in terms of content. For example, if your site is about “martial arts” and you wrote about a new technique that is yet to be discovered by others, there is high chances that other bloggers/site owners in your niche will link to your content because it proves as a good resource. But we would not recommend this as a strategy for getting backlinks. Never use the same keyword in an unnatural way and especially too many times, but you can use some kind of variation of the same word, etc. If there are any repetitive keywords in your content, use synonyms. The risk is not terrible, but keywords used too many times can set off flags, and your site could get human-reviewed and/or you could receive points off for SEO. However the situation changes with generous use of synonyms because obviously you’re not stuffing keywords, and then the search engines will think you’re great. This is done through Google’s LSI technology, which is nothing but Lateral Semantic Indexing. This has to do with the grouping of words that are related to your site, keywords, etc, and Google seems to like judging sites in terms of LSI content.
When you want to create a good copy, use text, don’t include flash. SEO and flash don’t go together in any sense of the word. Search engine spiders can’t read flash and it takes forever to load, annoyting your visitors. Flash is not something the search engines are capable of indexing. Simply put, if you use flash on your site, then the search engines can’t index it.
So for SEO purposes, you need to create text based content that the search engines can read. So make sure you avoid flash and keep everything in text.
Maybe you’ve seen image captions on some websites, and they are simply used to describe the image content. Granted, not everyone will notice them, but you should use them for a reason. It’s because Google goes through images and understands them very well. So, as you guessed – these captions are considered as another type of SEO on-page factor. Never stuff anything with keywords, but you can intelligently use your main keyword phrase in them.
